About the FCA and team
We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth and shaping the future of financial services in the UK.
SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). Sitting within the Buy-Side Directorate, the Market Interventions (MI), Asset Management and Funds Department supervises asset management firms, using data-driven oversight and collaboration across the FCA and industry to address key harms and ensure good outcomes for consumers and markets.
Join a collaborative team at the heart of shaping prudential policy for the UK asset management and funds sector on a 12-month fixed-term appointment. Combining policy knowledge, analytical insight and stakeholder engagement, the team develops proportionate, evidence-based policy that supports resilient firms, effective risk management and well-functioning markets.
As a Senior Associate, you’ll lead and contribute to important policy projects, assess complex prudential issues and provide clear advice to senior decision-makers. Working closely with colleagues across supervision, legal, markets, data and international teams, as well as with external stakeholders, you’ll help shape the future regulatory framework for the sector while developing your expertise, broadening your network and contributing to UK financial services.
Role responsibilities
- Help shape and deliver the prudential framework for UK asset managers, contributing to policy that supports resilient firms, effective markets and positive consumer outcomes
- Assess prudential risks across business models, capital, liquidity, governance, operational resilience and wind-down planning, helping to improve the sector’s resilience
- Analyse quantitative and qualitative evidence to develop practical, proportionate policy recommendations, balancing benefits, risks and real-world impact
- Produce high-quality briefings, consultation materials and policy papers that inform senior decision-making and support regulatory change
- Monitor market and regulatory developments, identifying emerging trends and considering their implications for the prudential framework
- Collaborate with colleagues across supervision, legal, economics, data and international policy teams to deliver effective policy outcomes from design through to implementation
- Build trusted relationships with firms, trade bodies and regulatory partners, using diverse perspectives to test and refine policy proposals
- Manage delivery plans, risks and dependencies while supporting and developing colleagues, contributing to an inclusive, collaborative team culture and building your own policy leadership experience
Skills required

- Prior experience in prudential policy and regulation, with a thorough understanding of prudential regulatory frameworks and their practical application, gained within the asset management sector or a regulator, government, financial institution, professional services firm, or similar environment
- Prior experience applying well-developed policy analysis and problem-solving skills to complex issues, using evidence and judgement to make sound recommendations, while successfully managing policy projects and competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Prior experience communicating technical and regulatory issues clearly and effectively, both in writing and when engaging with a range of audiences
Essential:
- Effective stakeholder management skills, with the ability to help guide effectively and provide constructive challenge to support robust decision-making
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively across teams and professional disciplines
- Experience developing, interpreting or applying prudential requirements for investment firms, asset managers or funds
- Good understanding of prudential topics, including capital, liquidity, group risk, governance, operational resilience, recovery and wind-down frameworks
