ABOUT THE ROLE
Join a small team building generative AI video technology as its founding backend engineer. You will lead backend engineering and shape the infrastructure and standards that support the product.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design and develop scalable backend systems for AI-powered video creation.
- Build infrastructure for agentic workflows, video generation pipelines, reinforcement learning loops, and real-time data processing.
- Own distributed systems architecture and improve reliability through automated testing, performance benchmarks, and end-to-end observability.
- Partner with research, engineering, and design teammates to develop product features and APIs.
- Write production code, set engineering guidelines, and establish technical direction and standards.
- Document systems, define agent skills, and communicate technical decisions clearly.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Five to ten years of backend software engineering experience, including experience at early-stage or high-growth startups.
- Industry experience building agentic systems and working with LLMs or generative AI for at least 12 months.
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript and AWS.
- Experience with scalable backend and distributed systems, large-scale data processing, information retrieval, and asynchronous workflows.
- Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and system design, applied in professional backend engineering work.
- Experience leading technically through code, engineering guidelines, and team standards.
- A formal degree and professional fluency in English.
- Work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base salary: $225,000 to $275,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
LOCATION
On-site in San Francisco, United States, five days per week.
