The Project Manager owns engineering feasibility assessments, manufacturing/process design, validation plans, and integrated project plans for customer programs involving new automotive technologies, from project initiation through industrialization and successful launch. Working with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams, this role applies engineering analysis to evaluate customer requirements, develop production-process solutions, assess product and process changes, and verify readiness against technical, quality, and manufacturing requirements. The Project Manager leads cross-functional project teams and remains accountable for program delivery, including timeline management, budget control, risk mitigation, resource coordination, and stakeholder communication. The role also supports business acquisition activities for assigned customers and serves as a key interface between customer organizations and internal functions.
This position is specifically allocated within our Business Growth Environment, requiring a highly customer-focused professional. The successful candidate translates customer requirements, challenges, and strategic objectives into technically feasible product-development and industrialization plans, working with engineers to evaluate proposed solutions and change requests. By building strong customer partnerships, identifying growth potential, and aligning technical feasibility with manufacturing capability and commercial objectives, the Project Manager contributes to successful program execution and long-term business expansion.
Core responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary customer contact across multiple products, communicating technical assessments and project status, coordinating cross-functional responses, managing expectations, and building strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Act as the voice of the customer within the organization, translating customer needs into technical and operational requirements and aligning engineering, manufacturing, and project priorities.
- Serve as the primary interface with the customer engineering team; own engineering feasibility assessments and work with engineers to evaluate technology-development requirements, technical alternatives, and proposed product or process changes.
- Own manufacturing/process design and industrialization deliverables for assigned programs. Develop and evaluate process-design solutions with engineering and manufacturing teams, assessing how product requirements, production methods, resources, quality controls, and validation activities integrate to support reliable, efficient production. Coordinate application development, resource planning, schedules, risks and opportunities, budgets, and launch execution.
- Analyze engineering specifications, technical and validation data, manufacturing capability, and commercial and project data to evaluate feasibility, identify product or process issues, and recommend engineering solutions. Assess the effects of proposed design and process changes on production cost, quality, reliability, resources, and launch readiness.
- Ensure customer requirements are understood, documented, and evaluated against internal product, service, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities. Develop technically supported recommendations with engineers when customer requirements are immature or missing, and maintain alignment between requirements, process-design decisions, and validation criteria.
- Lead a global cross-functional team of engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, finance, and purchasing to develop and industrialize assigned technologies within defined scope, planned timing, and target budget. Own validation plans with engineering and quality teams, evaluate results against technical and quality requirements, and drive resolution of identified gaps while maintaining profitability and meeting customer milestones.
- Establish project kickoff and integrated project baselines covering engineering feasibility, manufacturing/process design, validation deliverables, resources, timing, cost, and customer milestones. Maintain current technical decisions and project documentation throughout development and launch.
- Establish monitoring mechanisms with the multidisciplinary project team to assess technical deliverables, validation progress, manufacturing readiness, and milestone performance. Develop corrective and recovery actions with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams and escalate unresolved risks in time to avoid milestone delays.
- Represent the project team to internal stakeholders, providing transparent reporting on engineering feasibility, technical decisions, validation results, industrialization readiness, project status, and unresolved risks.
- Own project scope and engineering change-request assessments. Work with engineers to evaluate proposed product and process changes for technical feasibility and their effects on manufacturing methods, validation requirements, quality, reliability, production cost, resources, and timing. Develop documented technical recommendations, effort estimates, and execution plans, and ensure agreed customer changes are implemented and verified while meeting targeted margin objectives.
- Manage project profitability and work with engineering and manufacturing teams to evaluate cost-effective product and process alternatives, reduce avoidable rework, and improve process efficiency while maintaining technical, quality, and customer requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in automotive development and project execution, including leading cross-functional delivery through industrialization and launch.
- Within that experience, at least 5 years in customer-facing automotive project or engineering roles, communicating requirements, technical issues, changes, and program status.
- Experience evaluating engineering feasibility, manufacturing/process readiness, validation results, and product/process change impacts.
- Proficiency in project management tools (Microsoft Project or equivalent), MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical and program information clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to manage project plans, milestones, priorities, risks, documentation, and follow-up actions across multiple stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with global, cross-functional, or geographically distributed project teams.
- Experience supporting automotive customers.
