Technical Account Manager-Data Center Power Systems
Amperesand · San Francisco, California, United States
Company Overview
Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.
We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.
And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.
We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.
Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.
Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.
Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.
With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.
Join us in building the power foundation of the future!
Our first Solid State Transformer systems are being designed into live data center projects alongside hyperscale end customers and their switchgear and integration partners. Those programs run on a steady cadence of technical submittals, design reviews, and interface decisions — and they move at the pace of the customer's site schedule.
As a Technical Account Manager, you are the single technical owner of those relationships. You sit between the customer's electrical engineering team and ours, you author and defend the drawings and documents we submit, and you make sure every committed deliverable lands on time and correct. This is a hands-on engineering role with an account owner's accountability, not a coordination role.
Responsibilities
Own the technical relationship with key accounts. Be the named technical point of contact for a portfolio of strategic data center customers and their OEM, EPC, and switchgear integration partners. Run the recurring technical reviews, lead design workshops, and be the person the customer's engineers call first.
Author and own single line diagrams. Produce and maintain customer-facing SLDs covering the MV path, transformer winding configurations and topologies, protection devices and functions, auxiliary power distribution, generators, BESS/DC-DC interfaces, and test bed and FAT configurations. Drive these to internal review and alignment before they go out, and iterate against customer markups.
Prepare and deliver technical documentation. Own the submittal packages behind program milestones: staged design document submissions, system block diagrams, sequences of operation, state diagrams, protection function schedules, datasheets and rating plates, skid and site layouts, interface control documents, serviceable parts BOMs, and FAT plans and reports.
Manage customer deliverables end to end. Maintain the deliverable schedule and design decision tracker for your accounts. Break customer commitments into internal actions across electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, compliance, quality, and supply chain; drive them to closure; and escalate early when a date is at risk.
Run customer communications. Own RFI and technical inquiry responses, action item logs, meeting minutes, and status reporting. Give the customer a clear, accurate, single answer — and give leadership an honest read on program health.
Support FAT, commissioning, and energization. Partner with Test, Quality, and Service on factory acceptance testing, witness events, punch list closure, site acceptance, and handover documentation.
Bring the customer's voice back inside. Translate field and interface requirements into product requirements. Represent real deployment constraints in specification and design reviews so the next generation is easier to integrate, permit, and service.
Support new business technically. Join technical due diligence and evaluation conversations with prospective customers, and build the confidence that Amperesand can execute.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated technical depth in power systems.
- 4+ years in a customer-facing technical role — applications engineering, technical account management, systems engineering, or design engineering with direct customer ownership.
- Strong working knowledge of data center electrical design and power infrastructure: medium voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS and BESS, standby generation, transfer schemes, and common redundancy topologies.
- Demonstrated ability to author single line diagrams independently — not just review them — using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Visio, draw.io, or equivalent.
- Practical understanding of protection and coordination: transformer winding configurations (wye-wye vs. delta-wye) and their fault behavior, grounding schemes, ANSI protective functions, short circuit and arc flash considerations, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Track record producing customer-grade technical documentation and submittal packages under revision control, and defending them in front of a demanding customer's engineering team.
- Program discipline: comfortable running deliverable trackers, decision logs, and milestone schedules in Jira, Confluence, or equivalent, and holding cross-functional partners to dates.
- Excellent written and verbal communication. Able to hold a technical line with a customer, say "I'll get you an answer" and then actually close the loop.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to customer sites, partners, and manufacturing, including international travel as the business expands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects, from the owner, EPC, OEM, or equipment supplier side.
- Background in power electronics, inverters, BESS, or medium voltage power conversion.
- Experience with auxiliary power system design (48VDC / 125VDC), controls integration, and industrial protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, or IEC 61850.
- Familiarity with applicable standards — IEEE C57, IEEE 1547, IEC 62477, UL 1741, NFPA 70/70E — and with compliance and certification workflows.
- Hands-on FAT, commissioning, or startup experience on grid-connected equipment.
- Experience at an early-stage hardware company introducing a new product category to conservative infrastructure buyers.
