Position Overview

ISPA Technology is seeking a Fortran/C Developer to support modeling, simulation, and scientific software applications for Department of Defense customers. This position involves maintaining and enhancing established software packages, developing new capabilities, and supporting the accuracy and reliability of computational models.

The successful candidate will work with software developers, engineers, and technical subject matter experts to translate complex requirements into dependable software. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys understanding mature codebases, solving numerical problems, and improving software used for technical analysis and operational decision support.

Responsibilities

- Develop, maintain, debug, and enhance software written in Fortran and C.

- Support modeling and simulation applications, numerical algorithms, and associated analysis tools.

- Evaluate existing code to identify defects, performance limitations, and opportunities for improvement.

- Integrate new capabilities while preserving established functionality and computational accuracy.

- Develop and execute software tests, including regression tests and comparisons against established reference results.

- Investigate discrepancies in model outputs and collaborate with technical experts to resolve them.

- Support software builds, configuration management, integration, and release activities.

- Document software changes, technical assumptions, test results, and user guidance.

- Follow applicable security requirements and procedures for handling sensitive information.

Required Qualifications

- Active Secret or higher security clearance.

- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining software in Fortran and C.

- Experience working with scientific, engineering, numerical analysis, or modeling and simulation software.

- Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and modify an established codebase.

- Working knowledge of software debugging, testing, version control, and configuration management.

- Ability to translate mathematical or technical requirements into software implementations.

- Strong analytical skills and attention to computational accuracy.

- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with both legacy and modern Fortran.

- Experience integrating Fortran and C components.

- Familiarity with numerical methods, statistical analysis, or physics-based simulation.

- Experience with scientific software verification and validation.

- Familiarity with Windows or Linux development environments, compilers, build tools, and debugging utilities.

- Experience supporting Department of Defense software development or technical programs.
