Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Designer / Field Technologist to support Community Development projects through an approximately equal combination of office-based civil design and field work. The successful candidate will independently complete routine assignments and contribute to larger, more complex projects under the limited supervision of a senior engineer or project manager. The position combines senior-level design responsibilities with hands-on field data collection, construction observation, survey support, and project verification.

Your Key Responsibilities

Civil Design:

- Prepare civil engineering designs for grading, site servicing, stormwater management, roads, and municipal infrastructure.

- Develop drawings and models using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, and quantities.

- Perform design calculations and technical analyses, including grading, drainage, sewer capacity, and cut/fill assessments.

- Interpret survey data, technical reports, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements to support design decisions.

- Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical guidance to junior designers and technicians.

- Complete QA/QC reviews and contribute to CAD standards, templates, and design best practices.

Field & Construction Support:

- Operate RTK GNSS survey equipment to collect topographic, infrastructure, construction, and as-built data.

- Conduct field surveys, construction layout, site inspections, measurements, inventories, and field verification.

- Perform construction observation and document site conditions, progress, quantities, deficiencies, and conformance with drawings and specifications.

- Prepare and process field notes, photographs, sketches, survey records, and other project documentation for integration into Civil 3D.

- Coordinate with contractors, clients, municipal staff, property owners, and project teams to resolve field and design issues.

- Maintain field equipment and follow required safety, calibration, and data-management practices.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

- Minimum 5 years of civil design experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, with strong knowledge of grading, servicing, drainage, stormwater management, and municipal infrastructure.

- Demonstrated field experience in areas such as construction observation, surveying, inspection, layout, and field data collection.

- Hands-on experience operating RTK GNSS survey equipment is required; experience with Trimble equipment and workflows is an asset..

- Ability to independently complete field assignments, identify data-quality issues, and interpret civil drawings, specifications, surveys, technical reports, and applicable standards.

- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to balance office and field assignments and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital field documentation tools.

- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Education and Experience

- Diploma from a two- or three-year Civil Engineering Technician/Technology program, Civil Engineering Design program, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

- Minimum of five years of civil design experience is required, together with relevant field experience.

- Professional designation or eligibility for certification as a P.Eng, C.Tech. or C.E.T is preferred.

Work Environment

This role includes both office and field assignments. Office work involves regular computer use and may require remaining sedentary for extended periods. Field work may include exposure to construction activities, traffic, noise, dust, uneven terrain, remote locations, and inclement weather. The position requires the ability to carry and operate survey equipment and to work outdoors for extended periods while following project-specific health and safety requirements.
