ABOUT METAMORPHIC

Metamorphic is developing new approaches to intelligence by combining machine learning with large-scale experimental neuroscience, informed by the principles that make the brain efficient, flexible, and robust. We are building foundation models trained on rich, continuous neural data — a high-resolution model of the brain at a scale never before possible.

Our founding team spans machine learning, neuroscience, and neurotechnology, with prior work including the MICrONS project https://www.nature.com/immersive/d42859-025-00001-w/index.html, Neuropixels http://neuropixels.org/, and the Enigma project https://www.enigmaproject.ai/, as well as foundational scientific contributions in AI, neural computation, and embodied intelligence. Our work sits at the frontier of AI research, and we believe the highest-impact discoveries will come from researchers and engineers working as a single, tightly collaborative team.

The name Metamorphic reflects our belief that the next advances in intelligence will come from a change in form, beyond scale — from artificial to natural intelligence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Chief of Staff to work directly with our founders on the highest-priority work at Metamorphic. Your mandate is to multiply the founders' leverage: you'll drive the company's most important strategic projects, tackle the company’s most urgent cross-functional issues and drive them toward an outcome, and run the operating engine behind the company.

This is a high-autonomy, high-ownership role for an exceptional generalist who is comfortable moving between strategy and execution. The scope is broad and you will work cross-functionally and closely with the leadership team. You’ll support the founders with hiring, fundraising, preparing materials for the board, tracking and reporting, and leading strategic projects and initiatives as they arise. The right person in this role will have the opportunity to grow further into a leadership role at the company and will have a front-row seat to building one of the most cutting-edge companies in AI today.

In this role, you will focus on:

Strategy and special projects

- Partner with the founders on company strategy, priorities, and resource allocation, and turn decisions into clear plans with owners and deadlines

- Lead high-stakes strategic projects end-to-end, from evaluating compute strategy and vendors to structuring partnerships with other institutions and data partners

- Act as the founders’ thought partner and proxy: synthesize information, frame decisions, follow through on commitments, and represent the founders in internal and external meetings

- Work closely with other company leaders such as VP and technical heads across engineering, research, and product to move cross-functional work forward

- Explore new initiatives or areas that require temporary ownership, build structure around them, and stay close to the execution until there is a clear long-term owner

Fundraising, board, and communications

- Support fundraising end to end: draft pitch decks and investor narratives, prepare historical financials and projections, assemble data room materials, and manage the investor pipeline and diligence

- Prepare board decks and investor updates, run board meeting logistics, and track follow-ups to completion

- Create org-wide presentations, all-hands content, and internal communications that turn research progress into a clear company narrative

Operations

- Spearhead the business operations function across finance, legal, compliance and people, partnering closely with our VP of Technical Operations and our outside lawyers, accountants, and advisors

- Track the most important priorities, ensure decisions and commitments turn into action

- Build the dashboards and reporting that give the founders a real-time view of research milestones, compute, hiring, and cash

- Spot bottlenecks before they slow down the research, and fix them with better processes, AI tools, and automation

- Partner with external financial advisors to prepare Metamorphic’s budget, forecast, and monthly finance review, with a clear view of burn, runway, and compute spend

You'll thrive in this role if you:

- Have a track record of exceptional results and ownership in high-stakes, fast-moving environments

- Have designed and deployed automated workflows and leveraged AI tools to make teams faster, more efficient, and more effective

- Are comfortable with ambiguity: you can take a vague problem, structure it, and drive it to a decision without waiting for direction

- Operate with high autonomy and sound judgment, and earn trust quickly with founders, researchers, investors, and partners

- Are a true generalist, as comfortable building a financial model as drafting a board deck, negotiating a contract, or planning an offsite

- Write and present with clarity, distilling complex scientific and technical work into compelling narratives

- Hold a very high bar for detail and quality, and handle confidential information with discretion

- Have low ego and will do whatever it takes to help the team succeed, from strategy to the unglamorous details

- Are intellectually curious about AI and neuroscience, and excited to learn how foundation models of the brain are built

- Are enthusiastic to work at an organization that functions as a single, cohesive team pursuing large-scale AI research

We offer:

- The chance to work on one of the most scientifically consequential AI projects being pursued today

- A world-class team where your contributions directly shape the science and the company

- Competitive compensation and benefits, along with visa sponsorship

- Strong mentorship and career development

SALARY RANGE

$150,000 - $300,000 USD

Based on experience. We additionally offer a competitive equity package and comprehensive benefits, as well as visa sponsorship for international candidates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

- 5+ years of experience in roles such as management consulting, investment banking, product management, venture capital, strategy and operations, or early operating roles at high-growth startups

- Hands-on fluency with AI tools and a habit of using them to work faster and better

- Track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from ambiguity to results with minimal supervision

- Experience supporting fundraising or investor relations, including pitch decks, financial models, or diligence materials

- Strong financial acumen: comfortable owning a budget and forecast and working with accountants and legal counsel

- Exceptional written communication and presentation skills, including executive-ready decks and board materials

- Strong analytical skills, with experience building dashboards and reporting from messy data

NICE TO HAVE

- Experience as an early operator at an AI, deep tech, or research-driven company

- Founder experience, or prior experience working closely with a founder or CEO

- Background in, or strong interest in, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, or another scientific field

- Experience supporting a priced equity round

- Exposure to compute procurement, research partnerships, or scientific collaborations

We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification. If you're excited about our mission, we'd love to hear how you would contribute.
