Creative Marketing Coordinator

Location: Mare Island Brewing Co. – Coal Shed Brewery (Vallejo, CA)

Pay: $20–28/hr, Full-time

Mare Island has been a place where people build what they can't buy since 1854. Our brewery is built on that history. Every beer we make is named for a person, place or event from the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and we tell those stories across our cans, our three taprooms and every channel in between.

We're looking for a Creative Marketing Coordinator: a designer first, who wants to grow into branding and communications. You'll be one half of a two-person marketing team, working directly with our Director of Marketing. Your work goes out into the world fast, and you'll learn how marketing actually works, not just how to make the assets for it.

The role is based at our Coal Shed Brewery on the Mare Island waterfront. You'll also make regular trips to our Ferry Taproom in the Vallejo Ferry Terminal and to First Street Taphouse in downtown Benicia.

What You'll Do

- Design the materials that carry our brand: menus, taproom posters and signage, social graphics, email, and collateral for our taprooms and wholesale partners.

- Take a loose brief and run with it. Requests come in fast, and we need someone who can turn them around on-brand without much hand-holding.

- Plan, create and publish social content that connects people with our beer, our story and our taprooms.

- Shoot photo and video at events, beer releases and around the taprooms.

- Run marketing projects start to finish, following up with printers, vendors and our own team to keep things on deadline.

- Help build out our email marketing.

- Bonus: hand-drawn work. A few times a year that means label illustrations and beer boards.

What We're Looking For

- A degree in graphic design or equivalent experience, and a portfolio to show for it.

- Strong layout and typography skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). You can work inside an established brand system and make it look sharp.

- A good eye behind a camera, for both photo and video. Phone work counts.

- Curiosity about the marketing side: why one post works and another doesn't, and how a message changes between Instagram and a poster on the taproom wall.

- Organized enough to keep several projects and vendors moving at once.

- Comfortable working some evenings and weekends for events.

- Writing chops are a plus. Illustration is a big plus.

- Bonus points if you know Vallejo, Benicia or the North Bay.

- Passion for craft beer and curiosity about our history.

Why You'll Love It Here

- Your work will be on menus, taproom walls, screens and sometimes cans, and fast.

- You'll learn branding, communications and marketing strategy from the inside, not from the sidelines.

- You'll be part of a small, close-knit team at an independent craft brewery, voted SFGATE's 2026 Best Brewery.

- And of course… there's beer.

Benefits

- Paid vacation and holidays

- Employer-shared health, dental and vision coverage

- 401(k) plan with company match

- Employee discounts on beer, food and merchandise

- Monthly "beer benefits"
