Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and energy-efficient microchips

Working for tomorrow today.

Around 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. As the centerpiece of every electronically controlled system, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives – whether in smartphones, smart homes or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in the field of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With high-precision lithography optics, photomask systems and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, increasingly powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, and thus plays a pivotal role in the age of micro- and nanoelectronics.

In this role, you will help transform optical design algorithms into stable, high-performance customer products for adaptive lithography optics systems. Working in an interdisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with experienced optics, mechatronics and embedded software experts.

Your role

- Optimize internal algorithms developed for the design of adaptive lithography optics systems

- Understand optical design concepts and predominantly Python-based algorithms

- Transfer algorithms into C++ together with an experienced internal optics expert team

- Bring the resulting solutions to series readiness within customer systems

- Integrate increasingly complex functionalities of optical subcomponents into product control systems

- Analyze the functionality of the complete optical system

- Develop algorithms and product software that translate the desired optical behavior into specifications for mechatronic systems controlling adaptive optics

- Collaborate with experienced colleagues from optics, mechatronics and embedded software

Your profile

- Completed university degree in physics, applied computer science, data science or a comparable field; a doctorate is welcome

- Strong knowledge of geometric optics and experience developing efficient algorithms for optimizing optical systems

- Familiarity with adaptive optics, Zernike polynomials and wavefronts

- Experience with efficient numerical computing tools such as BLAS or LAPACK

- Proficiency in NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch and Jupyter Notebook

- Experience developing more complex software in C or C++

- Experience with Julia or ONNX is an advantage

- Strong communication skills and the ability to structure and clearly document complex topics

- German and English language skills at least at B2 level
