Sr. Design Engineer

Position Summary: Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Sr. Design Engineer is responsible for the quality and on-time delivery of designs for the steel pole transmission industry. This position is also responsible for designing complex utility structures, mentoring junior engineers, improving processes that impact key operational metrics, establishing deadlines, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the daily operations of the Engineering; personnel, systems, processes and Continuous Improvement initiatives (CI).
• Designing efficient, cost-effective utility structures that meet customer requirements and comply with applicable ASCE standards
• Build and lead a high-performing Engineering team that meets business demands.
• Strengthen and enforce engineering standards and procedures, and guide ongoing design software development.
• Collaborate with business leaders to advance engineering improvements.
• Establish and track productivity, efficiency, and quality goals.
• Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Train and coach employees on continuous improvement tools and methods.
• Lead team meetings, assign clear action items, and ensure timely completion.
• Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies to improve organizational performance.
• Provide technical leadership on major projects and collaborate with managers to improve processes and design quality.
• Drive continuous improvement to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.
• Stay up-to-date with Inventor features and design software technologies.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with all levels of the company.
• Other job-related duties as requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Lead, mentor, and develop junior engineers through knowledge sharing, clear communication, and structured training.
• Assign work, set priorities, and monitor progress to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
• Review engineering designs for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable standards and utility requirements.
• Implement process improvements and preventive measures to reduce design errors.
• Provide constructive feedback and support team accountability and professional growth.
Education/Training/Certifications:
• Engineering Bachelor’s Degree; Civil or Mechanical preferred.
• 5+ years team Design leadership experience in a Steel Utility Structure manufacturing or related environment
• Strong working knowledge of PLS pole software
• Strong understanding of lean/continuous improvement concepts, principles and practices.
• Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
Experience/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Knowledge of principals involved in production of technical fabrication drawings, and models.
• Detail oriented
• Good Communicator both written and verbal
