Akamai's Compute Team aims to simplify, scale, and make cloud computing accessible and affordable globally. Hosting vast virtual machines and data, the Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) on the Fleet Operations Team leads automated test strategies, framework architecture, and quality assurance for software platform maintenance and hypervisor upgrades across ARM and x86 compute infrastructure.

This role involves offering technical expertise, architectural leadership, and automation development for the Fleet Ops project using modern tools. Responsibilities include researching, proposing, and integrating open-source test frameworks while building continuous validation suites for backend services, APIs, and orchestration tools. The work ensures seamless hypervisor upgrades and hardware maintenance with zero customer disruption, high availability, and robust fault tolerance.
As a Senior SDET on the Fleet Operations Team, you will be responsible for:
- Designing scalable, high-performance automated test frameworks and harnesses to validate fleet hypervisor upgrades, REST APIs, UI, and system CLI tools.
- Designing, scaling, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous integration, automated regression, and performance testing across infrastructure components.
- Automating intricate functional, integration, performance, and resilience testing for virtual machine lifecycle operations and comprehensive fleet-wide maintenance tasks.
- Designing SQL schema queries and state-tracking tests in relational databases to ensure data integrity, hardware monitoring, and automated fallback processes.
- Collaborating with developers, SRE, and datacenter ops teams to assess software architectures, enhance test systems, and remove quality bottlenecks.

To be successful in this role you will:
- Demonstrate expertise in software development, quality engineering, or backend automation, paired with formal education in Computer Science or related fields.
- Demonstrate expertise in Python and experience with Go, Linux/Bash scripting for backend automation, system tools, and test suites.
- Show expertise using Pytest, unittest, or nosetests, designing modular, maintainable API, CLI, and end-to-end integration test harnesses.
- Implement CI/CD and DevOps integration, utilizing Jenkins or GitHub Actions for pipeline scaling and advanced Git workflows expertise.
- Demonstrate extensive practical expertise with Linux-based operating systems.
- Demonstrate expertise in relational databases, SQL schema queries, state tracking, and applying analytical techniques for thorough data evaluation.
