About Lume and Mando
Founded in 2017, Lume is a transformative personal care brand on a mission to normalize body odor beyond pits and provide people with outrageously effective solutions so they don’t have to think twice about odor. We are pioneers of the whole body deodorant category, with a portfolio of odor-blocking products including anti-perspirants, aluminum-free deodorants, body washes, body creams, cleansing bars and laundry sprays. Lume products are OB/GYN developed, made with skin-safe ingredients that are gentle enough for the most sensitive parts and often referred to as “life-changing” by our customers. In late 2022, we launched a men’s line called Mando, bringing our expertise to the men’s personal care category. From whole body deodorants to body washes, our product offerings arm men with the confidence to show up as their best selves as they move about their busy day.
Lume and Mando are part of Mammoth Brands, the modern CPG company behind category-leading brands Harry’s, Flamingo, Lume, Mando, and Coterie. Driven by a mission to “Create Things People Like More,” the company is creating a new model—and home—for brands, founders, and talent looking to solve unmet needs, improve peoples’ lives and ultimately change the status quo. Even as we grow, we take extra care to maintain the small, scrappy, entrepreneurial culture that helped to get us where we are today: a company that people like more, that better serves its customers, employees, and community. Mammoth Brands is committed to making a positive impact and donated over $20 million through our network of nonprofit partners to date.
We build brands that move fast and think big — and we hire people who are curious about AI, willing to experiment with it in their day-to-day work, and excited to accelerate what's possible. We prioritize giving our team the tools, training, and space to build real fluency, so you grow alongside the technology and help shape how we use it.
About the Team
The Packaging Engineering Team is responsible for the development and engineering of all aspects of packaging from concept to mass production. The team supports all packaging types including custom and stock packaging (bottles, caps, pumps, jars) and secondary packaging (folding cartons, gift sets) for all products within the Mammoth Brands Personal Care portfolio. As we continue to expand into new categories, the Packaging team will be an instrumental driver of innovation and brand success.
About the Role:
Packaging is one of the most visible and tangible ways consumers experience a brand. At its worst, it can be frustrating, wasteful, forgettable, or simply get in the way. At its best, it earns attention, builds trust, reinforces brand recognition, supports consumer loyalty, and does exactly what it needs to do without being excessive or underbuilt.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating packaging that delivers thoughtful, functional, and overwhelmingly positive experiences for our consumers.
What you will accomplish:
- Bring your passion and enthusiasm for package engineering to work every day
- Research packaging sustainability/innovation/trends and develop packaging components that support new product introductions, retail exclusives, promotions and partnerships, and operational initiatives.
- Recommend and own packaging workstreams required to qualify packaging components, tooling, equipment and processes.
- Develop specifications as part of the package development process. Access, review, modify or create 3D CAD models, 3D prints, and 2D engineering drawings to build prototype tools, samples, and approve component structures.
- Work with packaging component suppliers to design for manufacturing, apply robust testing plans to validate the design, and qualify production release in partnership with technical cross functional partners.
- Participate in and drive packaging engineering design reviews.
- Own packaging line trials and test plans. Troubleshoot packaging-related technical issues during development; develop risk mitigation plans and packaging alternatives.
- Work with the Production Artist team to develop color standards and establish production color ranges.
- Bring printing and decorating experience to the process of graphics design, decoration testing, and artwork approval.
- Issue and maintain packaging component specifications, finished goods specifications, and assembly instructions, for production accuracy and scalable success.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with packaging component suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal cross functional partners.
This should describe you:
- Studied/degree in Packaging Engineering and/or studies in mechanical engineering, industrial design, materials and chemical engineering and related fields. BS in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, other related disciplines, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in the design, testing, and development of new packaging using a range of component manufacturing processes and materials.
- Having knowledge of a variety of material properties and packaging components such as pumps, closures, bottles, tubes, aerosols, folding cartons, gift sets, flexible films and laminations.
- You have a good eye for design and aesthetics, plus experience with decorating techniques and materials used on primary and secondary packaging
- Honest, direct, and ability to articulate and defend technical packaging decisions as well as communicate clearly with cross functional teams.
- Experience with 2D engineering drawings to define critical-to-quality dimensions, and using engineering analysis methods such as Tolerance Analysis and Statistical Analysis.
- Experience in one 3D MCAD package (eg. Artios, Solidworks), TOPS Packaging design software, and familiarity with Kongsberg cutting tables is a plus.
- Extremely organized, dependable and self-motivated with the ability to excel in a hands-on, fast paced environment.
- Life-long learner: You love learning new things and are not afraid to admit when you don’t know an answer
- Sense of humor -- we take our work seriously and ourselves un-seriously
Here's who you'll work with:
- Reporting to the Director of Packaging
- Working within the Product Organization, as part of the Design Team with Industrial Designers and Production Artists.
- You will work cross functionally with many teams including Project Management, Quality, Global Supply, Product Development, Retail and Brand Marketing.
- Externally, you will work with packaging component suppliers, package testing labs, printing and decorating suppliers, and contract manufacturing and filling sites.
