Job Summary:

The Project Engineer works with our Tampa Project Management team to provide technical, procurement, and documentation support for mechanical projects from turnover through closeout. This role is ideal for early-career engineers and construction professionals who want hands-on experience in mechanical contracting and a clear path toward project management.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Setup & Turnover: Collect project information from Estimators, review scope and estimate assumptions, and coordinate turnover meetings for mechanical projects in the Tampa area to ensure a smooth handoff.

Plans & Specifications Review: Review contract documents to identify scope, potential conflicts, and coordination issues, and flag concerns to Project Managers early.

Submittals Management: Build the submittal register from plans and specifications, request submittals from vendors and subcontractors, review them for technical compliance with project requirements, submit for approval, and distribute approved submittals.

RFIs: Identify design discrepancies or missing information, draft and track Requests for Information, and communicate responses to the field and affected subcontractors.

Material & Equipment Procurement: Obtain and log lead times for materials and equipment, track release and delivery dates, and coordinate with vendors to support the project schedule.

Purchase Orders & Subcontracts: Issue purchase orders and subcontracts, logging all details and change orders in QuickBooks Workforce.

Change Management: Assist Project Managers in reviewing scope changes, gathering pricing from vendors and subcontractors, preparing change order proposals, and tracking approvals.

Owner-Directed Purchases (ODP): Submit ODP requests, track approvals, and manage invoice submissions for owner payment.

Scheduling & Coordination: Keep subcontractors and field teams supplied with current schedules, and support coordination with other trades and the general contractor.

Field Support: Visit Tampa-area job sites as needed to verify progress, support field teams with technical questions, and document conditions.

Document Control: Maintain current plan revisions for internal records and affected subcontractors, and keep the project tracking log up to date on submittals, released materials, POs/subcontracts, signed documents, and approved change orders.

Insurance Compliance: Collect job-specific certificates of insurance for mechanical subcontractors on Tampa-area projects.

Closeout & O&M Manuals: Compile O&M manuals including vendor documents, start-up reports, field as-builts, test and balance reports, and warranties; support commissioning activities and schedule owner training as required.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience: 0 to 3 years of experience in project engineering, project coordination, or a related role within construction or mechanical contracting. Internship experience is a plus.

Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret mechanical and plumbing drawings and specifications; understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems is a plus.

Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD/Revit, or project management software is a plus.
