Civil - Project Manager III
Alpha Inc. · Maui, HI, USA
USD 135,000 to 195,000 a year
The Opportunity
You’ve already proven you can run a project. Now prove you can raise the level of everyone running them with you.
Alpha Inc. is looking for a Project Manager III who can take on the projects where the stakes are higher, the moving pieces are bigger, and excuses get expensive.
This is not simply the next Project Manager title.
You’ll lead complex, high-risk and financially significant civil construction projects while providing leadership across multiple active projects and developing the Project Managers and Project Engineers coming up behind you. You’ll have a hand in the numbers, the contracts, the schedule, the client relationships, the field execution—and the decisions that determine whether a project merely gets finished or gets finished the Alpha way.
We’re looking for someone who can see trouble before it hits the cost report, have the difficult conversation before it becomes a claim, develop people instead of simply directing them, and bring Operations, Estimating, Safety, Equipment and the field together around one outcome.
If you're looking for a PM role where you simply manage your own lane, this probably isn't it.
If you want to help set the standard for how great projects—and great project leaders—are built, keep reading.
The responsibilities and candidate profile below are based directly on Alpha's PM III job description. Civil Project Manager III
About Alpha Inc.
Alpha Inc. is a Hawai?i-grown organization working across heavy civil construction, drilling, energy and infrastructure. Our work demands technical excellence, but the way we work matters just as much.
Three values define that standard:
Leading with Heart — Create a safe, productive and respectful environment while investing in the people around you.
Strength in Unity — Operations, estimating, safety, equipment, field leadership and clients don't win separately. We win together.
Alpha Mentality — Own the outcome. Challenge what's good enough. Keep improving. Deliver.
The COO posting establishes this same people + performance + accountability voice at the executive level; for PM III, that expectation translates directly to project leadership, operational execution and developing the next generation of Alpha leaders. Chief Operations Officer_Job Po…
What You’ll Own
Lead the Projects That Demand More
Oversee large, complex, multi-crew civil projects—and potentially multiple Project Managers—with significant operational, financial and contractual responsibility.
You’ll drive planning and coordination across projects so schedules, resources, crews and operational priorities stay aligned.
When the project gets complicated, you’re one of the people others look to.
Own the Numbers, Not Just the Schedule
Maintain command of budgets, forecasts, profitability, cash flow, cost exposure and project risk.
Analyze performance trends, identify problems early and implement corrective action that improves margins, forecasting accuracy and execution.
At this level, knowing what happened isn't enough.
You need to know why—and what we're doing about it.
Get Ahead of Risk
Serve as a senior escalation point for contractual disputes, financial challenges, schedule impacts, change management, claims and client concerns.
Review and provide guidance on contracts, change orders, procurement strategies and execution plans with one objective: protect the project while positioning the team to perform.
Build Leaders, Not Followers
Directly lead, coach and develop Project Managers and Project Engineers.
Provide real feedback. Create meaningful development opportunities. Set expectations. Hold people accountable. Help PM II talent become promotable leaders.
Your success won't be measured only by the projects you deliver.
It will also show up in the people who become better leaders because they worked with you.
Make the Whole Operation Better
Partner with Estimating, Safety, Equipment, Human Resources and Operations Leadership to improve project delivery and operational consistency.
Lead and support division-wide process improvements, training, standards and best practices.
Champion technology, better workflows, stronger reporting and smarter execution strategies.
We don't need someone who says, “That's how we've always done it.”
We need someone asking, “How do we make it better?”
Represent Alpha When the Stakes Are High
Build credibility with clients, owners, subcontractors, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
Support business development, client relationships, project pursuits and strategic discussions when needed.
Whether you're working through an issue in the field or sitting across the table from an owner, you represent Alpha—and the standard travels with you.
What You Bring
We're looking for demonstrated performance, not a collection of buzzwords.
You should bring:
- 2–4 years of successful performance as a Project Manager II, or equivalent leadership experience in heavy civil construction or a related industry.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, major scopes and/or Project Managers while maintaining strong financial and operational performance.
- Proven experience with complex contracts, client negotiations, claims, change orders and project risk mitigation.
- Experience successfully leading projects with elevated risk, significant cost exposure, public visibility or complex stakeholder requirements.
- A track record of developing Project Engineers and Project Managers into promotable leaders.
- Demonstrated results improving project profitability, execution consistency, operational systems or organizational processes.
- Advanced working knowledge of forecasting, budgeting, cost control, cash flow and project financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of contract administration, claims awareness, risk management principles and construction law fundamentals.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to influence and collaborate across every level of an organization.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Valid driver's license.
The A-Player Difference
A strong PM manages the work.
A Project Manager III at Alpha helps improve how the work gets managed.
You're thinking beyond today's schedule. You're building tomorrow's leaders. You're protecting margin before problems hit the bottom line. You're connecting field execution to financial performance. And you're willing to challenge a process when there's a safer, smarter or more effective way forward.
Most importantly, you embody:
Leading with Heart — You can hold a high bar without forgetting there are people on the other side of it.
Strength in Unity — You don't build kingdoms or tolerate silos. You bring the right people together and get after the problem.
Alpha Mentality — You own outcomes, attack challenges and continuously raise the standard.
Why Alpha?
Because the work matters—and so does how it gets done.
You'll have the opportunity to lead significant civil construction projects, influence how Alpha executes across its operations, develop emerging leaders and help improve the systems behind the work.
We're looking for people who want more than another project on their résumé.
We want builders who want to leave the operation stronger than they found it.
