Training Manager
Soletanche Bachy UK Zone · Ipswich, United Kingdom
The Geotechnical Sub Alliance (GSA) is at the forefront of the Sizewell C nuclear power station development - one of the UK’s largest and most exciting infrastructure programmes.
We’re responsible for preparing the foundations of the entire site: designing and constructing cut‑off walls, retaining structures, soil improvements and more. Using advanced geotechnical engineering and world‑class construction technologies, this is a rare opportunity to contribute to a national project that will shape the UK’s clean‑energy future.
The Role
To lead, manage and have operational oversight of all training activity across the GSA project, ensuring a consistently competent, compliant, and capable workforce across all delivery partners. The Training Manager will lead a multi‑disciplinary training team and work in close collaboration with HR, Site Leadership, and partner organisations to ensure a consistent, high‑quality approach to learning, onboarding, and qualifications management across the project.
What You'll Be Doing

- Own and maintain the project’s training governance framework, ensuring training activities meet project, contractual, statutory, and industry requirements.
- Establish clear training standards, processes, and controls applicable to all partners and delivery organisations.
- Provide assurance that training arrangements are fit for purpose across all phases of the project lifecycle.
Training Planning, Coordination & Delivery Oversight
- Hold overall accountability for the planning, coordination, and delivery of training across the project.
- Ensure training activity is aligned to construction schedules, mobilisation plans, and operational priorities.
- Oversee the training team in coordinating training requests, scheduling delivery, and managing demand across multiple stakeholders.
- Approve training delivery approaches and the use of external training providers in conjunction with the HR Manager.
Compliance, Qualifications & Assurance
- Take full accountability for training compliance and competence assurance across the project workforce, including employees, contractors, and partner organisations.
- Ensure effective systems are in place to monitor qualifications, certifications, and expiry requirements.
- Maintain oversight of training records to ensure data integrity, traceability, and audit readiness.
- Act as the senior point of escalation and lead contact for audits, inspections, and assurance reviews related to training and competence.
Partner & Stakeholder Management
- Lead engagement with partner organisations to ensure consistent application of project training requirements.
- Work closely with HR and site leadership to ensure training supports onboarding, mobilisation, and workforce deployment.
- Provide clear communication to stakeholders on training compliance, risks, and constraints impacting delivery.
- Influence and challenge partners where training or competence risks are identified.
Team Leadership & Capability Management
- Lead, manage, and develop the training team, setting clear priorities, objectives, and performance expectations.
- Allocate work effectively across the team to ensure training demands are met without impact to project timelines.
- Build capability within the team through coaching, mentoring, and structured development.
Risk Management, Issue Resolution & Improvement
- Own and resolve escalated training issues, complaints, and non‑compliance, escalating externally where required.
- Identify training‑related risks and implement proportionate controls to mitigate impact on safety and delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement in training processes, delivery methods, and coordination based on feedback and lessons learned.
General
- Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the seniority and accountability of the Training Manager role.
