ABOUT THE ROLE

Lead an engineering pod building software for mortgage lending. You will balance people management and delivery with hands-on engineering, partnering closely with Product and Technical Leads in a complex, high-stakes domain.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Manage and support a pod of engineers through regular one-on-ones, feedback, performance management, hiring, and career development.

- Own planning, retrospectives, delivery health, and early identification of execution risks.

- Continue contributing code, typically around 10 to 20 percent of your time, and stay connected to the team's engineering work.

- Partner with Product Managers and Technical Leads on prioritization, architecture decisions, and cross-functional alignment.

- Support effective onboarding and maintain clear documentation and ownership boundaries.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- At least 8 years of software engineering or engineering management experience, with a progressive path from individual contributor work into engineering management.

- Experience managing a pod of at least five engineers, including hiring, performance reviews, and performance management.

- Recent experience shipping production software and coding hands-on in an engineering management role.

- Strong backend engineering experience and hands-on TypeScript skills, including willingness to complete a live coding exercise.

- Experience with TypeScript and modern web and backend technologies such as React, Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS.

- Comfort using AI tools in engineering workflows, with familiarity with AI product development practices such as evaluations, experiment design, or dataset curation.

- Recent hands-on coding ability beyond AI-assisted coding, and experience working in a startup or small-company environment.
