Software Engineering, Team Manager
Description - Lead engineering teams that support critical assessment services, with three opportunities across Vue Testing Services, OnVue Exam Developer and Test Delivery in United States. You will combine people leadership, delivery oversight, technical judgement and responsible AI adoption to strengthen team performance and customer outcomes. Also known in the market as: Engineering Manager; Software Development Manager; Technology Manager; Software Engineering People Manager.
About the Role
Pearson is hiring three Software Engineering Team Managers in United States through one recruitment campaign. The roles share a common leadership profile but support different product areas: Vue Testing Services (VTS) and Test Delivery (TD) and OnVue - Exam Deleloper.
The Opportunities
- VTS Lead teams supporting services around the candidate's assessment journey, including registration, payment and score reporting. Product and service-platform leadership experience may be particularly useful.
- TEST DELIVERY Lead teams supporting the delivery of assessments in test centres and online. Experience with high-volume, operationally critical or reliability-focused platforms may be particularly useful.
- ONVUE / Exam Developer - OnVUE offers a growth and governance opportunity across online proctoring and vendor partnerships. ExamDeveloper needs transformation, quality improvement and more sustainable processes. Final product alignment will be discussed during screening.
In either opportunity, you will lead through clarity, coaching, accountability and partnership. You will translate priorities into achievable plans, strengthen engineering and delivery practices, develop people, manage risk and help teams adopt AI-assisted development responsibly. This is a management role with minimal hands-on coding expected.
What You’ll Do
- Hire, onboard, coach, develop and retain engineers and technical professionals.
- Set clear goals, feedback rhythms, development plans and team operating practices.
- Translate product and department priorities into achievable team plans, capacity choices and ownership.
- Track sprint and release progress, dependencies, blockers, defects, quality and immediate delivery risks.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Quality Engineering, DevOps, Security, Operations and business stakeholders.
- Maintain strong standards for design, testing, automation, security, observability, documentation and operational readiness.
- Use engineering, delivery, quality and team signals to identify patterns and drive improvement.
- Guide deliberate adoption of AI-assisted development, testing, review and documentation while protecting quality and security.
What We’re Looking For
- A hands-on technical foundation in software engineering, quality engineering, architecture, technology solutions or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching or managing technical professionals and building effective teams.
- Experience delivering software products, platforms or technology services in Agile or similarly iterative environments.
- Evidence of leading meaningful change, making sound decisions and improving delivery or team effectiveness.
- Working knowledge of modern software delivery, cloud, DevOps, CI/CD, automation, security, reliability, observability and operational readiness.
- Experience making people, capacity, priority and delivery decisions in a cross-functional environment.
- Experience working across distributed teams, functions or time zones.
- Practical experience using or introducing AI-assisted engineering tools, with sound judgement about quality and risk.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving and stakeholder-influence skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
Compensation
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by factors including skill set, experience, and location.The full-time salary range for this role is $165,000 – $175,000. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here.Applications will be accepted through November 9th, 2026.
