About Thermo Fisher Scientific

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO) is the global leader in serving science, generating annual revenues of approximately $35 billion and employing around 110,000 people across more than 50 countries. Our mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Through our industry-leading brands — Thermo Scientific, Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen, Fisher Scientific, and Unity Lab Services — we support customers in accelerating life sciences research, addressing complex analytical challenges, enhancing patient diagnostics, and improving laboratory productivity.

The Position

Join the Platform TEM R&D organization within the TEM Modules Software group, where we develop software for some of the world's most advanced transmission electron microscopes. Our solutions bring together software, electronics, and precision engineering to enable reliable instrument operation and support cutting-edge scientific research.

As a Software Technical Lead within the Vacuum Software Team, you will combine hands-on software development with technical leadership, helping design and evolve the software that controls and monitors vacuum systems in our High-End and Mid-Range TEM products. You'll guide technical decisions, contribute to software architecture, and help the team solve complex engineering challenges while maintaining high standards of software quality and reliability.

You'll be part of an Agile Development Team working in a SAFe environment, collaborating with software engineers, system architects, test automation engineers, and other specialists across disciplines. Beyond delivering solutions, you'll have the opportunity to share your expertise, mentor colleagues, and help the team continuously improve its engineering practices, including the effective use of modern AI-assisted development tools.

See your software come to life on some of the world's most advanced scientific instruments. You'll develop and validate solutions directly on electron microscopes and dedicated test benches, tackling fascinating challenges where software meets physics, electronics, and precision engineering. You'll gain a deep understanding of complex systems, navigate sophisticated software architectures, and turn real-world engineering problems into reliable, maintainable solutions.

What you´ll do:

- Lead technical decisions and guide software design, architecture, and implementation across the development team.

- Design, develop, and maintain reliable, high-quality software for vacuum control and monitoring systems.

- Solve complex engineering challenges, including debugging, root cause analysis, and hardware/software integration.

- Collaborate across disciplines to translate requirements into effective technical solutions and coordinate integration activities.

- Mentor and support engineers, sharing knowledge and promoting sound software engineering practices.

- Drive continuous improvement in software quality, testing, development efficiency, and effective use of modern tools, including AI-assisted development.

- Support technical planning, including effort estimation, identifying risks, and coordinating technical work across teams and sites.

What we´re looking for:

- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including software architecture, design patterns, clean code, and maintainability.

- Proficiency in C++ or C#, with the ability and willingness to learn and work across different languages and frameworks.

- Ability to understand and navigate complex codebases, investigate dependencies, debug challenging issues, and identify effective solutions.

- Experience with software quality practices, including unit testing, code reviews, version control (Git), and CI/CD.

- Technical leadership and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on, pragmatic approach to engineering challenges.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working across disciplines and distributed teams, with good written and spoken English.

- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

- Strong software engineering expertise, demonstrated through the development of complex, reliable, and maintainable software systems.

- Experience with complex software architectures and codebases, including system integration, debugging, and hardware/software interactions.

- Demonstrated technical leadership, including guiding engineering decisions, mentoring colleagues, and collaborating across disciplines.

- Commitment to engineering excellence, with a proactive approach to improving software quality, development practices, and team efficiency.

Nice to have:

- Experience with hardware/software integration, embedded systems, device communication, or real-time control systems.

- Experience with additional technologies, such as MFC, Qt, WPF, COM, NUnit, Google Test/Mock, or similar frameworks.

- Practical experience with AI-assisted software development, including improving productivity, understanding code, debugging, and testing, and helping drive effective AI adoption within the team.

- Familiarity with Agile/SAFe environments and tools such as Jira, TestRail, Axini, or behavior-driven development (BDD).

What we offer:

- Flexible working hours to better balance your personal life.

- 25 days of vacation and 5 sick days/year

- Financial benefits - annual bonus, pension insurance allowance, possibility of life or health insurance for better prices

- Mobile tariff for you and family members for great prices
