Data Governance Manager

Renova Talent · Sydney NSW · hybrid

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a pioneering Fintech organisation during an important stage of growth and delivery. This is a hands-on role for a Data Governance Manager who will establish, embed, and continuously improve the organisation's data governance framework, standards, and practices.

Working closely with the Head of Data, Technology and Program Management and the broader Data and Technology Team, you will operate in an active, delivery-focused capacity. Rather than acting as a traditional assurance function, you will partner with business, product, and technology teams to improve data quality, controls, and compliance outcomes while enabling strategic data and innovation objectives.

Key responsibilities:

- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organisation's data governance framework, policies, standards, and supporting procedures.

- Establish and maintain data quality standards, controls, and monitoring processes, identifying issues and driving remediation initiatives.

- Define and maintain data ownership, stewardship responsibilities, business glossaries, and critical data element definitions across the organisation.

- Perform analysis of datasets to identify trends and anomalies, and assist with data extraction, manipulation, and validation activities.

- Review and assess database structures, schemas, and information models to ensure alignment with business requirements.

- Support innovation initiatives by ensuring governance principles are embedded from design through delivery, without inhibiting progress.

- Ensure data management practices align with company policies and relevant legislative, regulatory, privacy, and information security obligations.

About You:

You will have a strong understanding of data governance principles and frameworks, with proven experience implementing practical governance processes and controls. You are highly capable in data analysis and problem-solving, bringing hands-on experience with SQL, database concepts, and structured datasets.

You are comfortable performing data profiling and root-cause analysis, and you understand metadata, lineage, and master/reference data concepts. Experience operating within regulated, risk-sensitive, or compliance-focused environments is essential, and familiarity with tools such as Alteryx and Tableau is preferable.

You are an exceptional communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills, capable of translating governance concepts into a practical and business-friendly manner.

You enjoy variety, can think strategically about data management, and are equally willing to work directly with datasets and systems to solve real-world problems.
