About Marvell

Marvell’s semiconductor solutions are the essential building blocks of the data infrastructure that connects our world. Across enterprise, cloud and AI, and carrier architectures, our innovative technology is enabling new possibilities.

At Marvell, you can affect the arc of individual lives, lift the trajectory of entire industries, and fuel the transformative potential of tomorrow. For those looking to make their mark on purposeful and enduring innovation, above and beyond fleeting trends, Marvell is a place to thrive, learn, and lead.

Your Team, Your Impact

Your team develops silicon photonics-based optical engines and components at the heart of next-generation AI and data center infrastructure, directly shaping how AI systems connect and scale. You will work at the intersection of silicon photonics, advanced packaging, and high-speed electronics. Join a group of curious, highly motivated engineers embedded in a culture that is flexible, open, highly international, and genuinely people-centered. Zurich consistently ranks among the world’s top cities for quality of life and is one of Europe’s leading technology hubs, seamlessly combining innovation with exceptional living standards.

What You Can Expect

- Define, simulate, the architecture of high-frequency electrical interfaces for next-generation optical engines (400G/lane CPO and beyond)

- Perform co-design across photonics, analog/ASIC design, and packaging teams to optimize performance, power efficiency, and signal integrity

- Perform testing, characterization, and qualification of components and integrated systems

- Develop and validate end-to-end link budgets, correlating simulation and measurement across electrical and optical domains

- Analyze and interpret measurement data to identify performance limitations and drive design improvements

- Perform root cause analysis of complex signal integrity issues across electrical and optical domains

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

- Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a related field, with an expected graduation date after the internship

- Solid foundation in RF/microwave engineering, transmission lines, and signal integrity fundamentals (S-parameters, impedance matching, loss and crosstalk mechanisms)

- Coursework or research exposure to optical communications, silicon photonics, or electro-optical devices (modulators, photodetectors, lasers)

- Experience in one or more of the following (research or coursework counts):- EM or circuit simulation (HFSS, CST, or ADS), or RF PCB design

- High-frequency or electro-optical measurements (VNA, oscilloscope, AWG, BERT), ideally in a university lab or prior internship

- Python or MATLAB for data analysis, instrument automation, or system/link simulation

- High-speed link concepts: PAM4 signaling, equalization (FFE, DFE, CTLE), and metrics such as BER, SNR, and eye diagrams

- Exposure to advanced packaging (2.5D/3D integration, co-packaged optics)

Personal qualities

- Curiosity and initiative, with the ability to work independently on a well-scoped project

- Collaborative, willing to learn from and work with cross-functional teams

- Clear communication, written and verbal, including presenting results to technical audiences

- Comfortable with ambiguity and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment
