Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

Introduction

As a Trainee Operations Technician, you’ll provide technical and administrative support to London-based broking teams, working with experienced colleagues to respond to day-to-day queries. You’ll help maintain accurate premium, policy and client processing in line with Group policy and London Market requirements.

You’ll receive support to develop your technical knowledge and understanding of insurance processing. Your work will connect broking colleagues, internal teams and external interested parties, helping documentation, invoicing and other technical matters progress accurately and on time.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll support technical processing from documentation and invoicing through to data entry and issue resolution. As your knowledge develops, you’ll take on a broader range of activities and contribute to training, testing and project work.

- Support London-based broking teams with day-to-day technical and administrative queries.

- Assist with client administration, policy changes and invoicing, checking that information is accurate and complete.

- Help prepare London Market coverage and pricing documentation, including slips, quotes and indications.

- Complete data entry, credit-control and subjectivity follow-up, maintaining accurate records and escalating complex or urgent matters.

- Contribute to user documentation, system testing, training activities, data-integrity monitoring and project work.

- Take part in technical training and apply feedback to build your knowledge of insurance processes and systems.

-

These responsibilities retain the documentation, slips, data-entry, credit-control and subjectivity work already included in the trainee example, while removing the expectation to act as the principal technical referral point.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need to have worked in every area listed below. We’re looking for someone who can produce accurate work, communicate clearly and develop their understanding of London Market insurance processing through training and practical experience.

- Ability to follow defined processes and produce accurate, well-documented work.

- Clear written and verbal communication, with confidence asking questions and sharing information with colleagues.

- Numeracy suited to premium, policy and invoicing activity.

- Ability to organise assigned tasks, maintain accurate records and escalate issues when support is required.

- Awareness of Lloyd’s, the wider London insurance market or insurance intermediary requirements.

- Familiarity with Acturis, LPAN production or Xchanging / DXC technology. Full training will be provided where required.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

- Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new

- We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges

- We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond
