Roles Overview
The Track Test Engineer is primarily responsible for planning, executing, and documenting vehicle testing programs focused on vehicle dynamics, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), active systems, and automated driving technologies. This role combines hands-on vehicle testing, technical troubleshooting, data analysis, programming, and technical report development to support customer validation and testing activities. Will work closely with customers and internal test engineers to execute testing procedures utilizing robotic driving equipment, ADAS targets, and vehicle instrumentation systems. Responsibilities: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned or requested. - Vehicle Testing and Validation: - Conducts track tests on vehicles to assess their performance including precision driving maneuvers, and the operation of various specialized track equipment such as steering robots, braking robots, robotic platforms, soft targets, etc.
- Drives vehicles in various stages of production and development according to strict speed and position tolerances.
- Checking and troubleshooting instrumentation and data collection systems
- Understands requirements of existing test procedures and protocols.
- Understands and complies with testing procedures and ensures the quality of the test output
- Data Analysis and troubleshooting: - Gathers data on vehicle dynamics, such as acceleration, braking, cornering, and stability
- Analyzes test data to identify areas of improvement and to ensure vehicles meet safety and performance standards
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to various sensors such as load cells, encoders, CAN, and ethernet.
- Technical Reporting: - Documents test results and provide detailed reports to customer for further review and development.
- Prepare test plans, test procedures, engineering summaries, and validation reports
- Translate complex technical findings into meaningful conclusions and recommendations
- Maintain complete and accurate test documentation in accordance with customer requirements.
- Collaboration: - Interfaces with clients and internal team members
- Coordinate with supervisor for any procedural questions or non-conforming test results.
- Maintaining equipment: - Operates and maintains various test equipment which may include robotic vehicle controllers, computers, computer guided targets, etc.
- May be involved with the design, fabrication, and implementation of specialized test equipment.
- Health, Safety and Workplace Responsibility:- Incorporate safe work practices into your daily activities and immediately reporting near misses, hazards or injuries
- Adhere to all company health and safety policies and procedures
- Complete required safety training, attending scheduled meetings.
- Using equipment properly, and wearing appropriate PPE as required (face covers, ear plugs, gloves etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience conducting automotive testing for US FMVSS standards such as FMVSS108, FMVSS126 or 135
- Experience creating technical reports, engineering documentation, and test summaries.
- Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, handling, braking, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge – jump starting vehicles, changing tires, etc.
- Working knowledge of physics, electronics, dynamics, mechanical design and assembly, data protocols such as CAN, ethernet, etc.
- Experience with MATLAB or other coding language.
- Experience with MS Office products including Excel and Word
- Strong attention to detail, ability to maintain client confidentiality, and excellent communication skills.
