JOB SUMMARY

The Floral Design Manager is responsible for the creative direction, operational leadership, and financial performance of the floral and plant program across The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa campus. This includes daily floral installations, interior plantscaping, weddings, member events, corporate functions, holiday decor, retail floral offerings, and special events.

This position serves as both a creative leader and business manager, responsible for establishing and maintaining a distinctive floral aesthetic while ensuring operational excellence, profitability, exceptional guest experiences, and team development.

The ideal candidate is an experienced floral studio leader with a proven track record of managing luxury floral operations, leading high-performing teams, and executing sophisticated floral designs and installations for luxury hospitality properties, private clubs, resorts, weddings, and high-end events. Experience leading a luxury floral studio or hospitality floral program generating $500,000 to $1 million+ in annual revenue is strongly preferred.

This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standards and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of creativity, professionalism, discretion, and service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Creative Direction & Floral Design

- Develop and maintain the overall creative vision and design standards for floral and plant installations throughout the campus.

- Design and oversee floral displays for the Hotel, Club, Trellis Spa, restaurants, retail venues, weddings, special events, and public spaces.

- Create seasonal floral programs, design concepts, vision boards, and presentations that reflect Houstonian's luxury brand standards.

- Ensure consistent quality, innovation, and attention to detail across all floral products and services.

- Stay current on industry trends, luxury floral design techniques, and emerging products.

Event Design & Management

- Oversee all daily floral studio operations, including production, procurement, inventory management, delivery, installations, and workflow planning.

- Collaborate effectively with multiple internal departments to support special events and member experiences.

- Establish and maintain operational procedures, quality standards, and best practices.

- Develop and manage relationships with wholesalers, growers, and vendors to secure premium floral and plant materials.

- Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate par levels for flowers, plants, containers, and supplies.

- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.

- Lead the design and execution of weddings, social events, member functions, holiday programs, and corporate events.

- Collaborate with clients, event planners, and internal departments to develop floral concepts and customized proposals.

- Prepare vision boards, pricing estimates, floor plans, and design presentations.

- Oversee event production including staffing, installation, onsite execution, and event breakdown.

- Manage multiple events and projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional quality and guest service standards.

Financial Management & Business Development

- Manage departmental revenue, expenses, labor, inventory, and profitability.

- Develop annual budgets and monitor performance against established financial goals.

- Create and maintain pricing structures that support revenue growth and margin expectations.

- Prepare inventory reports, sales analysis, and monthly financial performance summaries.

- Identify opportunities to expand floral services, increase revenue, and improve operational efficiency.

- Communicate departmental performance and key metrics to the Director of Brand Strategy.

Marketing & Brand Development

- Partner with marketing and social media teams to promote floral offerings, workshops, events, and seasonal programs.

- Assist with floral styling, photography, content creation, and promotional initiatives.

- Develop an annual floral event and marketing calendar designed to drive guest engagement and revenue opportunities.

Leadership & Team Development

- Recruit, train, coach, and develop floral designers and support staff.

- Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, collaboration, and exceptional service.

- Manage staffing schedules and labor resources to support daily operations and event execution.

- Conduct team meetings, performance evaluations, and ongoing training.

- Establish clear performance expectations and quality standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum 6-10 years of progressive floral design experience.

- Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience managing a floral studio, floral department, or luxury event operation.

- Proven experience leading, developing, and managing a team of floral designers and support staff.

- Experience working within a luxury hotel, resort, private club, destination wedding venue, or premier floral studio environment.

- Proven experience managing multiple complex projects and events simultaneously.

- Experience managing departmental budgets, inventory, pricing strategies, labor costs, purchasing, and P&L performance.

- Strong portfolio demonstrating elevated floral artistry, creative vision, and large-scale event execution.

- Established relationships within the floral industry and knowledge of wholesale sourcing and vendor management.

- Ability to translate client vision into exceptional floral experiences while maintaining profitability and operational efficiency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience leading a luxury floral studio or hospitality floral program generating $500,000 to $1 million+ in annual revenue.

- Bachelor's degree in Floral Design, Horticulture, Hospitality Management, Business, Event Management, or equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

- Professional floral certifications such as CFD, AIFD, or equivalent.

- Experience developing a signature floral brand aesthetic within a luxury hospitality environment.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:

- Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work safely and effectively in outdoor temperatures. This position requires working indoors in a floral shop environment and outdoors for plant care and event setups. The role may involve exposure to varying temperatures and conditions. Must be comfortable working in a physically demanding environment and with various floral materials and equipment. This position will work in a fast-paced environment, with the potential for off-site events. The floral design studio may have varying temperatures to ensure flower freshness, and the role may require extended hours during peak event seasons.
