Position Summary
The TMA Driver is responsible for safely operating a truck equipped with a Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) to support Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) operations on the SR400 Express Lanes Project. This position helps protect workers, equipment, and motorists by providing a mobile safety barrier during roadway construction and maintenance activities.
The TMA Driver must follow all project safety requirements, traffic control plans, and applicable regulations while maintaining awareness of changing traffic and work conditions.
Principal and Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate the TMA truck in active roadway and construction areas.
- Position the TMA truck as directed by the MOT Foreman or Supervisor to protect workers and equipment.
- Maintain a safe distance from construction crews, equipment, and moving traffic.
- Monitor traffic and roadway conditions while operating the TMA truck.
- Follow all traffic control plans, work-zone procedures, and project safety requirements.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the TMA truck and report any issues.
- Maintain the TMA truck and equipment in safe and clean operating condition.
- Communicate with the MOT Foreman and crew regarding traffic conditions and work activities.
- Follow all SR400 Constructors, DOT, and applicable work-zone safety requirements.
Qualifications Required
- Valid driver's license.
- Previous experience operating a TMA truck, shadow vehicle, or similar construction support vehicle preferred.
- Ability to safely operate a vehicle in active roadway and construction environments.
- Ability to understand and follow traffic control plans, safety procedures, and instructions.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and traffic conditions.
- Ability to maintain constant awareness of surrounding traffic, workers, and equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime as project needs require.
Work Environment and Safety Requirements
This position works primarily outdoors in active roadway construction zones and may be exposed to traffic, construction equipment, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.
The employee must wear required PPE, including a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest or clothing, and work boots. The TMA Driver must remain alert at all times and follow all project traffic control and safety procedures.
