NATURE AND SCOPE
Front-line execution ownership. The Heartland Spinning Supervisor is the closest leadership layer to the production floor within the assigned area, and the first dedicated supervisory role in the chain. Working team leads report to the supervisor but carry production responsibilities alongside their teams. The supervisor carries the full weight of supervisory decision-making, performance management, and escalation within the area while relying on team leads for on-the-floor coordination, work direction, and real-time communication with technicians. The incumbent must maintain real-time awareness of spinning line performance, respond to process deviations and equipment issues as they occur, and ensure production technicians execute-to- work instructions and quality standards. This role is focused on shift-level execution and immediate problem resolution within a single defined area.
Area-specific process knowledge. The St. Louis spinning operation is organized into distinct production areas, each with a different number of spinning lines and physical footprint. Area assignments range from 4 to 6 spinning lines, which drives team size variation (~16–24 per area). The supervisor must develop deep familiarity with the process parameters, equipment configurations, fiber types, and polymer chemistries specific to their assigned area, and they must manage production complexity that scales with line count and product mix.
Team development in a scaling environment. The St. Louis site has grown approximately 67% in workforce over the past two years. Many production technicians are relatively new, and the supervisor must balance production execution with active coaching, skills development, and culture-building. The incumbent is responsible for developing working team leads into effective frontline leaders who can balance their production duties with team coordination, and for building a pipeline of capable technicians who can absorb new production capacity as it comes online.
Shift coordination and handoff discipline. The supervisor manages day-shift operations and is accountable for structured, high-quality shift handoffs to night-shift supervisors. Clear communication of production status, equipment issues, safety concerns, quality holds, and pending actions is critical to maintaining continuity across the 24-hour production cycle and preventing information loss.
Cross-functional interface at the floor level. The role requires active coordination with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Continuous Improvement teams to resolve production issues, support root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions. The supervisor serves as the primary point of contact between the production floor and support functions within the assigned area and must work collaboratively across the business to perform supervisory responsibilities with minimum direction from management.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Excellent face-to-face and written communication skills (Candidate must communicate effectively with operators, maintenance personnel, technical support personnel, management, and all internal and external stakeholders)
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- A keen drive to improve operational execution and maintain high work standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- A safety focus, with a full understanding of the applicability of Government EHS regulations and the Company’s Global EHS policies and procedures to the facility and workers.
- Knowledge of quality systems and the requirements of ISO 9001–2015 and how they apply to production processes is preferred but is not required.
· A continuous improvement mindset with familiarity in Lean, Root Cause Analysis, and other CI tools is required.
· Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on knowledge of tooling fabrication, maintenance, and calibration
· Comfortable analyzing, interpreting, and communicating data and trends
· Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve tooling-related process conditions
Key Job Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety of all personnel within the assigned spinning area by demonstrating leadership in the Basic Safety Process (BSP), enforcing EHS standards and corporate safety policies, leading daily safety observations and pre-shift safety communications, finding opportunities for improvement in safety performance, and achieving continuous improvement toward zero-injury targets and leading indicator performance. The incumbent must maintain a strong safety focus with a full understanding of the applicability of government EHS regulations and the company's Global EHS policies and procedures to the facility and workers.
Deliver shift-level fiber production output that meets the production schedule by directing day-shift operations within the assigned area to achieve defined output, yield, utilization, and schedule adherence targets, coordinating with other supervisors and managers on production schedules and goals, coordinating work team scheduling and job assignments, and escalating resource or equipment constraints to the Production Manager in a timely manner.
Maintain process discipline and fiber quality standards by ensuring production technicians execute-to- work instructions and process parameters, monitoring real-time quality data, responding immediately to yield deviations or out-of-specification conditions, and supporting root cause analysis and corrective action implementation in partnership with Engineering, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams. The incumbent must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills and k
