Associate Client Care – Intake Lawyer
Law Partners · Sydney, Australia · hybrid
Move beyond running files and use your legal expertise where it matters most — at the start of the client journey.
At Law Partners, we’re Australia’s largest specialist personal injury law firm. Every day, we speak with people who have been injured and need clear, practical guidance about what they can do next.
We’re looking for an experienced personal injury lawyer to join our Sydney CBD-based Client Care team as an Associate Client Care – Intake Lawyer. This is a fixed-term maternity leave contact commencing in January 2027 for approximately 12 months.
This is an opportunity to take your personal injury experience in a different direction — using your legal knowledge, judgement and client skills to assess new matters, provide preliminary advice and help prospective clients take the right next step, without the responsibility of managing an ongoing caseload.
Client Care operates at the front end of the firm, where responsiveness, sound judgement and client experience are critical. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment, assessing a broad range of enquiries and making timely decisions about the appropriate next step. The role suits a lawyer who can quickly identify the key legal issues, communicate confidently with clients and take ownership of progressing viable matters.
What will you do?
You’ll be one of the first legal points of contact for people enquiring about making a personal injury claim. Working closely with our Client Care Specialists and legal teams, you will:
- Conduct telephone and video consultations with prospective clients
- Assess claims across areas including Workers Compensation and Work Injury Damages (WID), Public Liability, CTP, TAC, Medical Negligence, TPD and Abuse
- Assess liability, causation, injury, loss, evidence, jurisdiction and limitation issues
- Provide clear and accurate preliminary legal guidance and advice, escalating complex or borderline matters where appropriate
- Determine the appropriate pathway — sign-up, conference, further investigation, referral or decline
- Complete one-step sign-ups where appropriate and explain costs and engagement documentation
- Arrange conferences with the relevant legal team when further assessment is required
- Take ownership of follow-up, engagement and handover
- Ensure receiving legal teams have the key information and documentation they need
- Maintain accurate records and file notes within the firm's systems
- Identify vulnerable or distressed clients and adapt your communication accordingly
- Work closely with Practice Partners, lawyers and Client Care Specialists to ensure a seamless client experience
At Associate level, you’ll also play an important role in mentoring junior lawyers and supporting Client Care Specialists, including providing day-to-day guidance, sharing legal knowledge and helping build consistent triage and decision-making across the Client Care team
Why this role?
If you enjoy the legal and client-facing side of personal injury law but are ready for something different from managing a full caseload, this could be an excellent next step.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Use your legal expertise without running an ongoing file load
- Have meaningful conversations with clients at a critical point in their journey
- Assess a broad range of personal injury matters
- Work alongside experienced legal practitioners and respected Practice Partners
- Develop your skills in legal intake, assessment and client engagement
- Mentor and support less experienced team members
- Help shape how prospective clients experience Law Partners from their very first interaction
About you
We’re looking for a qualified Australian solicitor with approximately 2–5 years' post-admission experience, ideally with a strong background in personal injury law. You’ll be comfortable working in a fast-paced intake environment, making sound preliminary assessments efficiently and progressing enquiries promptly rather than approaching each matter as though you are preparing an ongoing file.
You’ll bring:
- Solid plaintiff personal injury experience
- Strong legal judgement and the ability to assess matters independently
- A sound understanding of liability, evidence, causation and limitation issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence speaking with people who may be distressed, uncertain or unfamiliar with the legal process
- Strong empathy, emotional intelligence and client care skills
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail and follow-through
- A proactive approach to client engagement, with the confidence to progress viable matters toward sign-up or conference while ensuring clients receive appropriate and transparent advice
- The ability to work collaboratively and support junior colleagues
Experience in legal intake, initial conferences, client onboarding or working across multiple personal injury jurisdictions will be highly regarded.
