Shipbuild Project Manager – Wave Energy Converter Installation Vessel

CorPower Ocean · Hägersten, Sweden

We are on a mission to bring reliable and competitive wave energy to the world. We offer a high degree of autonomy, combined with great personal responsibility. CorPower Ocean is a global leader in wave energy, with a technology that has shown game-changing performance. Your work will contribute to the global transition to renewable energy by unlocking one of the largest untapped sources of clean energy on earth.

As we move toward large-scale deployment, we are building a purpose-designed vessel for installing and retrieving our Wave Energy Converters (WECs) at sea. This vessel is central to making wave energy cost-effective and scalable.

The Role :

As Shipbuild Project Manager, you will be the owner’s representative throughout the newbuild project, from shipyard selection to delivery and the warranty period. You will make sure the vessel is delivered on time, within budget, to the agreed quality, and fit for its mission of handling WECs safely and efficiently. You will work closely with our engineering, operations and finance teams as well as external partners. Alongside the newbuild, you will help build the organisation that will crew, operate, maintain and manage the vessel. For the right candidate, the role offers a natural path into a Vessel Manager role once the vessel is delivered.

Key Responsibilities :

Shipyard selection and contracting

- Prepare tender documentation together with the ship designer and internal stakeholders.

- Identify, pre-qualify and evaluate shipyards on technical capability, capacity, financial strength, track record and price.

- Lead or support negotiations of the shipbuilding contract, specification, payment terms, guarantees, and delivery schedule.

Project execution and follow-up

- Follow up the shipbuilding contract, including milestones, payments, variation orders, and claims.

- Follow up the ship designer, including design progress, drawing approval and design changes

- Manage interfaces between yard, designer, equipment suppliers, and our WEC engineering team, so the vessel and the WEC handling concept work together.

- Follow up the classification and flag state approval process, including plan approval, surveys, and certification.

- Follow up the design, integration and approval of systems for remote and/or unmanned operation, including the interface between the vessel and the remote operations centre.

Site supervision and quality

- Carry out regular shipyard site visits, and lead or coordinate an owner’s site team during construction.

- Follow up quality assurance, inspections, testing, HSE performance and non-conformities.

- Attend and follow up FAT, harbour acceptance tests, sea trials, commissioning, and delivery.

Budget, schedule and risk

- Ensure the project stays within budget and timeline through active cost control, forecasting, and schedule management.

- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.

- Report status, risks and key decisions to management.

Preparing for operations

- Support the setup of the organisation and structure for crewing, operating, maintaining and managing the vessel.

- Contribute to setting up safety management systems, maintenance systems, spare parts strategy and technical documentation.

After delivery

- Follow up guarantee claims during the warranty period.

- Lead or support the transition from project to operations.

Experience and competence :

Required

- MSc or BSc in naval architecture, marine engineering, mechanical engineering or similar

- At least 8 years of experience in shipbuilding or offshore projects, including at least one complete newbuild project from contract to delivery.

- Experience representing the owner (or working on the yard side) in newbuild projects, including site supervision.

- Solid understanding of shipbuilding contracts, specifications, and variation order management

- Experience with classification societies and flag state approval processes, and working knowledge of relevant IMO regulations.

- Proven track record of managing budgets, schedules, and suppliers in complex projects.

- Fluent English, spoken and written.

- Strong negotiation skills.

- Willing to travel, including periods at the shipyard.

Desirable

- Experience with specialised vessels such as construction vessels, anchor handlers, multicats or workboats.

- Experience with dynamic positioning (DP) systems, deck handling equipment, and mission equipment integration.

- Experience with remotely operated or unmanned surface vessels (USVs), including remote operations centres, autonomy or remote-control systems, and the associated class and regulatory approval processes.
