Sr. Financial Systems Architect

intrepidgs · McLean, Virginia, United States

The Sr Financial Systems Architect owns the end-to-end architecture, roadmap, and cloud migration strategy for Deltek Costpoint and adjacent financial applications across a high-growth, PE-backed federal contracting environment. This role serves as the primary technical and functional authority for Costpoint architecture, sitting at the intersection of Finance and IT, and ensuring that Intrepid’s financial systems are scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with both government contracting requirements and investor expectations.

Intrepid currently operates three Deltek Costpoint instances under active re-implementation, with a strategic path toward instance consolidation and cloud migration. The Senior Architect will lead architecture design, integration strategy, data conversion, and cutover approach for the cloud migration; establish integration standards across timekeeping, HRIS, payroll, contracts, procurement, and BI applications; and translate finance and compliance requirements into scalable, well-governed technical solutions.

The ideal candidate brings deep Costpoint architectural expertise combined with cloud and integration depth, GovCon financial process fluency, and the judgment to operate credibly across both Finance and IT organizations. This is a hands-on senior role for a seasoned Costpoint expert who understands both the operational realities of GovCon.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Costpoint Architecture & Cloud Migration

- Own the end-to-end architecture of Deltek Costpoint and related financial systems, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and alignment with business strategy.

- Lead the migration of Costpoint to a cloud environment, including architecture design, integration strategy, data conversion planning, cutover approach, and post-migration optimization.

- Drive Costpoint instance consolidation strategy in coordination with the Senior Manager, Financial Systems, aligning architecture decisions with functional roadmap and business priorities.

- Establish and enforce SDLC and change management processes for Costpoint enhancements, releases, cloud updates, and configuration governance.

- Drive performance, reliability, and security improvements across the Costpoint ecosystem, including access controls, data governance, and disaster recovery.

Integration Strategy & Enterprise Systems Alignment

- Partner with IT to define and implement integration patterns between Costpoint and adjacent systems, including timekeeping, procurement, CRM, HRIS, payroll, BI tools, and data warehouses.

- Design and document end-to-end system workflows across GL, AP, AR, billing, project accounting, indirect rates, revenue recognition, and other core Costpoint modules to support GovCon-specific needs.

- Establish integration standards, data models, and technical specifications that support scalable, well-governed enterprise architecture.

- Serve as the primary technical liaison between the Senior Manager, Financial Systems and the IT organization, translating finance and compliance requirements into technical solutions.

GovCon Compliance, Controls & Reporting

- Ensure Costpoint configuration and architecture support DCAA, FAR, and CAS compliance requirements, as well as internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory obligations.

- Support Finance leadership and PE stakeholders by enabling robust reporting, analytics, and KPI visibility from Costpoint and related platforms.

- Design and support Cognos reporting architecture, dashboards, and data flows tied to Costpoint and adjacent financial data sources.

- Develop and maintain technical and functional documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration standards, integration specifications, and data models.

Vendor Management, Governance & Technical Leadership

- Lead or support vendor management with Deltek and key implementation partners, including SOW development, technical reviews, and solution validation.

- Provide technical guidance to financial systems analysts and business super-users, including best practices for configuration, testing, change management, and issue resolution.

- Participate in and occasionally lead project governance activities, including steering committees, risk assessments, and post-implementation reviews.

- Monitor industry trends in GovCon ERP, cloud architecture, and financial systems to keep the environment aligned with best practices and evolving investor expectations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, or related field required; advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus.

- Eight or more years of experience with Deltek Costpoint, including advanced configuration, architectural responsibility, and hands-on technical ownership.

- Direct experience designing and/or migrating Costpoint to a cloud environment (hosted, SaaS, or hybrid), including architecture design, data conversion, and cutover execution.

- Hands-on experience with IBM Cognos for building and maintaining financial, project, and executive dashboards tied to Costpoint data.

- Strong understanding of GovCon financial processes, including project accounting, indirect rates, revenue recognition, and contract and billing structures.

- Hands-on experience with system integrations (APIs, ETL, middleware) between Costpoint and key adjacent platforms including timekeeping, HR, CRM, BI, and procurement.

- Solid working knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA considerations as they relate to financial systems architecture and data structures.

- Demonstrated experience in cloud architecture, including security, access control, performance, and disaster recovery concepts.

- Experience leading ERP or financial system implementations, upgrades, or major enhancements in a GovCon context.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

- Experience with BI and analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Deltek Analytics) and data warehousing supporting financial reporting.

- Background in process reengineering for finance operations, including close, billing, project setup, and indirect rate management.

- Familiarity with modern DevOps or CI/CD practices as they relate to enterprise applications and cloud environments.

- Experience in PE-backed environments with heightened reporting, governance, and portfolio company expectations.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

- Proven ability to serve as a bridge between Finance and IT, translating business requirements into scalable system design and technical specifications.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design scalable, maintainable architectures in a complex, multi-system environment.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical architecture and roadmap decisions to Finance, IT, executive leadership, and PE stakeholders.

- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and delivery-focused, with sound judgment on when to standardize versus customize.

- Comfortable operating credibly across dual reporting relationships and multiple stakeholder communities.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Ability to obtain Secret or Top Secret Clearance preferred.

TRAVEL: As needed to support integration work, vendor management, and business reviews.
