WORDSMITH
Wordsmith is building the legal operating system for in-house teams, and we are growing fast.
We believe in-house legal is becoming one of the most important functions in the AI era. Every business is moving faster, but legal work is still too often scattered across inboxes, chats, documents and disconnected systems.
Wordsmith brings that work into one system. Requests come in from across the business, AI agents handle the routine, lawyers stay in control where judgement matters, and every step is captured as work happens.
We are built for in-house legal, not law firms. Our goal is to help legal teams move faster, reduce unnecessary external counsel spend and become a function the business can run with.
More than 500 companies, including Financial Times, Safelite, Trip.com http://Trip.com, Canva, Starling and Sage, use Wordsmith. Backed by over $100M from Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Highland Europe and others, we are building one of the defining companies in legal AI.
THE ROLE
Deployment Engineers own the technical side of getting Wordsmith live inside a customer.
Once a deal is signed, you’ll connect Wordsmith to the systems our customers already run on. That means identity and SSO, Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, Google Workspace, Salesforce, document management, chat tools, and MCP connections to the wider AI and data stack. You’ll design how data and permissions flow between them, build and test the integrations, and work through each customer’s IT and security requirements until everything works in production.
It’s part integration engineering, part solutions architecture, and part customer-facing problem solving. You’ll be the technical lead on every deployment you own, the person customer IT teams talk to, and the person who works out how to make it work when an integration doesn’t behave as documented.
This is a technical, hands-on role. You don’t need to be a lawyer, and we’re not necessarily looking for one. We’re looking for engineers and technical consultants who understand identity, APIs and enterprise SaaS, and who enjoy making systems talk to each other. Your focus is the technical foundation the rest of the deployment runs on.
You’ll work side by side with our Legal Engineers on every deployment. While you connect Wordsmith to the customer’s systems, they configure the platform itself: workflows, agents, playbooks and automations built around how the legal team works. You’ll plan the deployment together, agree what each integration needs to support, and make sure the connections you build give their configuration the data, documents and permissions it depends on.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
1. INTEGRATIONS
- Own the integrations for each deployment, including SSO and SCIM, Microsoft 365, SharePoint and OneDrive, Google Workspace, Salesforce, document management and chat tools
- Configure and connect Wordsmith to customers’ wider AI and data stack through MCP
- Build, test and harden integrations so they hold up in production, not just in a demo
2. IDENTITY, SECURITY & ACCESS
- Set up identity and access, including SSO with Okta, Entra ID and Google, user provisioning, roles and permissions
- Work through customers’ security reviews, IT questionnaires and data-handling requirements
- Make sure permissions in Wordsmith respect the permissions in the systems it connects to
3. TECHNICAL SOLUTION DESIGN
- Take the technical handover from Sales and confirm the customer’s systems landscape, constraints and integration scope
- Design how data, documents and requests flow between Wordsmith and the customer’s tools
- Advise customer IT on the right architecture for their environment and where the trade-offs sit
- Work with Legal Engineers to agree what each integration needs to support the workflows, agents and playbooks they’re configuring
4. TECHNICAL DELIVERY & ESCALATION
- Lead the technical workstream of each deployment, from environment setup and integration build through testing to go-live
- Diagnose and fix integration issues, and act as the escalation point for technical problems during rollout
- Know when a problem needs Engineering, and bring them a clear, reproducible case
5. IMPROVE HOW WE INTEGRATE
- Turn what you learn into reusable integration patterns, setup guides and technical runbooks
- Feed connector gaps, API limitations and recurring requests back to Product and Engineering
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Hands-on experience deploying and integrating enterprise SaaS in customer environments
- Strong working knowledge of identity and access, including SSO (SAML, OIDC), SCIM provisioning, Okta, Entra ID or Google Workspace
- Experience integrating with the Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, Google Workspace or Salesforce ecosystems
- Comfortable with APIs, webhooks, authentication flows and reading technical documentation. You can script or write code where it helps
- Familiarity with MCP or other ways of connecting AI systems to tools and data, or a strong appetite to learn
- Credible with customer IT and security teams. You can answer their questions and stand behind your architecture
- Methodical troubleshooter who isolates problems, reproduces them and fixes them
- Clear communicator who can explain a technical decision to a non-technical stakeholder
Typical backgrounds include
- Deployment, integration or implementation engineers in SaaS
- Solutions engineers or solutions architects
- Technical consultants with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or Salesforce experience
- IT or identity engineers who have moved into customer-facing roles
HOW WE WORK
We’re an in-person team based in Edinburgh or London. You should expect to work from the office or visit customers as your default.
We set a high bar, move quickly and give people meaningful ownership. There will not always be an established playbook, so you’ll need to bring curiosity, structure and persistence to unfamiliar situations.
You’ll sit in the Transformation team, reporting to the VP of Transformation, and work closely with our Legal Engineers, alongside Legal Intelligence, Enablement, Customer Success, Support Engineering and Product.
Our customer teams have clear but closely connected responsibilities: Transformation leads implementation, Support Engineering resolves technical issues, Account Management owns renewals and commercial growth, Customer Success owns adoption, customer health and value realisation, and Enablement owns onboarding, training and customer capability.
WHY WORDSMITH
Wordsmith is growing quickly, winning new customers and expanding within larger organisations. Wordsmith is only as useful as the systems it connects to. Every new customer brings a different stack, and Deployment Engineers are the people who make Wordsmith work inside it.
You’ll work directly with ambitious in-house legal teams, see how dozens of legal functions really operate, and take that back into a product you help shape. You will work across enterprise identity, productivity and CRM platforms, and on MCP as it develops into a standard. You will own real technical outcomes from your first week and help define how we integrate as we scale.
