ABOUT THE ROLE
Lead a core engineering team building AI-powered tools that transform complex tax documents into reliable structured data. This hands-on player-coach role combines people leadership with regular technical contribution as the team grows.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Manage and grow a team of senior, staff, and principal engineers while contributing code, reviewing designs, and debugging challenging problems.
- Ship customer-facing, evaluation-driven AI products for document processing and data extraction.
- Coach engineers through direct feedback, support their technical and product judgment, and help develop future leaders.
- Own hiring, onboarding, and team growth as the organization scales.
- Work with domain experts and customer-facing teams to connect engineering decisions to product and business outcomes.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 10 or more years of software engineering experience, with substantial hands-on individual contributor work and formal engineering management experience.
- Experience managing a team of engineers, ideally including staff or principal-level reports, while remaining actively involved in production software development.
- Backend, backend infrastructure, or backend-leaning full-stack expertise, with current experience writing code, reviewing designs and pull requests, and debugging.
- Experience building or leading external, customer-facing products and hiring, onboarding, and scaling engineering teams.
- Ability to set clear expectations, give direct feedback, address performance concerns, and help engineers grow.
- Exposure to AI or machine learning systems, such as document AI, retrieval-based systems, agentic systems, or evaluation-driven development. Python, TypeScript, and cloud infrastructure experience are useful.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base salary: $415,000 to $450,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
