PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST (GRANT) - DRUG COURT - CAMDEN COUNTY (2910)

JOB SUMMARY: This position provides peer-based recovery support for Brunswick Circuit Drug Court program participants.

MAJOR DUTIES

- Utilizes personal experience in addiction and recovery to engage, support, and empower Drug Court program participants in maintaining sobriety and achieving their recovery goals.

- Establishes trusting and supportive relationships with participants that foster openness, accountability, and personal growth.

- Promotes personal responsibility and peer empowerment; encourages participants to take ownership of their recovery; offers motivation, support, and constructive feedback while modeling health behavior and resilience.

- Facilitates engagement in Drug Court programming; assists individuals in understanding program requirements, including court procedures, treatment expectations, and probation conditions.

- Facilitates structured peer group sessions where participants present their phase work assignments; encourages honesty, self-reflection, and connection to personal lived experience; assists participants in understanding and responding to assignment questions in a meaningful and recovery-oriented way.

- Implements participant recognition and incentive programs.

- Connects participants to community resources; assists individuals in accessing recovery meetings, housing support, employment services, healthcare, and other supportive resources aligned with their recovery needs.

- Provides crisis support and supportive referrals; offers support during crises, high-risk situations, or relapses; refers to counseling staff as needed.

- Participates in continuing education, supervision, and skill-building trainings while upholding ethical standards and maintaining personal recovery wellness.

- Maintains clear, accurate, and timely records of peer interactions in compliance with confidentiality regulations and program documentation standards.

- Collaborates with the Drug Court Team; offers peer-informed insights and collaborates with clinical and court professionals to support participant progress.

- Assists with case management and program operations; tracks participant compliance with sanctions and program expectations; assists with participant intake processes; enters client information and updates into data systems; sets up participants in curfew monitoring systems; collects Drug Court fees.

- Enters information into software programs as needed.

- Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

- Knowledge of Drug Court policies and procedures.

- Knowledge of substance use recovery principles.

- Knowledge of co-occurring mental health disorders, signs of crisis, de-escalation techniques, and referral protocols.

- Knowledge of peer-based recovery support principles.

- Knowledge of confidentiality laws.

- Knowledge of local area service providers.

- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

- Skill in providing peer-based recovery support to program participants.

- Skill in preparing reports and maintaining required records.

- Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.

- Skill in problem solving.

- Skill in interpersonal relations.

- Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Case Management Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include program and county policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

- The work consists of varied specialized peer support duties. The unique needs of each program participant contribute to the complexity of the position.

- The purpose of this position is to provide peer support for program participants. Successful performance contributes to the treatment and rehabilitation of program participants.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county employees, program participants, service providers, and members of the general public.

- Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, motivate persons, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and utilizes the sense of smell.

- The work is typically performed in an office.
